Designer Babies: Creating a ‘better’ humanity or a step towards transhumanism?
The Image of the Beast
Revelation 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. (15) And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
If you are a first time reader, I suggest that you read Singularity and The Image of the Beast about man merging with machines and Genetic Armageddon about man’s DNA being altered. Together they show scientists are on the verge of creating a transhuman: a beast that is part human and part something else. Creating a transhuman is right on top of us!
I believe that tampering with the integrity of man is a KEY sign of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. God will put a stop to this at His return. It appears from Revelation 13:15 that man will succeed in creating a transhuman, which the Bible calls “The Image of the Beast.” What I am posting is NOT science fiction.
From charting the advancement toward a transhuman being, it is possible to get an idea how close man is to God’s judgment. God must stop the creation of transhumans because these creatures are not created in His image and likeness; therefore, they cannot be redeemed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
What I do in this blog is keep the reader on the cutting edge of technology advancements that are directly leading to the Image of the Beast. These advancements are reported under headings that include: Computer Brain, Digitized Mind, Robotic Body, Cyborg, Genetic Armageddon, Chimera, and Advanced Technology.
This blog is the complement to the “666 Surveillance System” which focuses on technological innovations leading to the rise of a government so repressive and controlling that it’s called a “Beast” state.
Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
The articles and videos in this post all deal with the modification of humans at a basic level. While this topic has been of concern for some time, and we’ve regularly provided stories that point to “progress” in this area, it just was announced that Chinese scientists have attempted to edit the genomes of human embryos. That is a huge step toward the creation of post-humans or “designer humans,” without the addition of mechanical technology as in cyborgs. But if the technology is there, the mad scientists will use it.
The one theme that has been consistent since the inception of this blog is the drive for men to play God. While everyone would like to see an end to dread diseases, there’s a hubris and arrogance in the scientific community in this area that continually pushes the boundaries of what we should and shouldn’t tamper with, as the ethics line keeps shifting farther afield. What’s unthinkable today becomes accepted tomorrow as newer technologies allow for greater tampering.
Will they be successful, to the point that designer babies soon will be commonplace? There’s already discussion beginning on that topic; it’s the next boundary to be pushed. But what will be the outcome of that, if we take that next step? Certainly anyone who has a disabled child will be viewed with reproach, since the disability might have been avoided. And what happens when everyone opts for super athletes, or children with super intelligence?Unfortunately, life will have less value than it does now, as the cartoon indicates.
Proponents would say that this will further the path of human evolution, that mankind will get better and better. But it’s merely eugenics in an updated form, and all of the past arguments against eugenics hold true here. We’ve been down that road, and we’ve seen where it leads: Nazi Germany, with its sterilization and extermination camps. That was Darwinism carried to its logical extreme; this is merely the modern version.
God knows exactly what He’s doing in bringing each child into the world exactly as it is. While each birth may not always be the epitome of human wisdom, if we presume to know more than God, we’re already in trouble. But that’s part of the larger scheme here, promoted by the elites who would transform humanity until it no longer resembles God’s original design for creation. Mankind was made in the image of God and because of their disdain for Him, they want to wipe out any trace of that resemblance.
The goal is to create a new mankind, according to their own imagination. And although they may not realize it, this goal isn’t their own – they’re being driven to it by their spiritual masters, under the control of lucifer. It won’t stop with gene editing at the level of the embryo because once that goal is achieved and accepted, chimeras will be the next boundary. Yet even then it will continue until we’re living in the days of Noah again, when God was forced to wipe out creation because of the widespread tampering that had occurred with men and animals, and the devastation that tampering was wrecking.
This is all part of a master plan to destroy man being created in God’s image, and knowingly or unknowingly, this is where the “mad” scientists are taking us.
Isaiah 44:24,25 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish….
Chinese scientists genetically modify human embryos The attempt to destroy the core of man through the DNA manipulation is now heading into high gear. It will always be promoted for good and health, but in the end the mad scientists will create beasts that are not in the image of God.
“In a world first, Chinese scientists have reported editing the genomes of human embryos…confirm[ing] widespread rumours that such experiments had been conducted — rumours that sparked a high-profile debate last month about the ethical implications of such work. [R]esearchers…tried to head off such concerns by using ‘non-viable’ embryos, which cannot result in a live birth, that were obtained from local fertility clinics…using a gene-editing technique known as CRISPR/Cas9. [T]heir results reveal serious obstacles to using the method in medical applications.
Some say that gene editing in embryos could have a bright future because it could eradicate devastating genetic diseases before a baby is born. Others say that such work crosses an ethical line…because the genetic changes to embryos, known as germline modification, are heritable, [and] they could have an unpredictable effect on future generations. Researchers have also expressed concerns that any gene-editing research on human embryos could be a slippery slope towards unsafe or unethical uses of the technique.
The team injected 86 embryos and then waited 48 hours, enough time for the CRISPR/Cas9 system and the molecules that replace the missing DNA to act — and for the embryos to grow to about eight cells each. Of the 71 embryos that survived, 54 were genetically tested. This revealed that just 28 were successfully spliced, and that only a fraction of those contained the replacement genetic material. “If you want to do it in normal embryos, you need to be close to 100%,” Huang says. “That’s why we stopped. We still think it’s too immature.”
His team also found a surprising number of ‘off-target’ mutations assumed to be introduced by the CRISPR/Cas9 complex acting on other parts of the genome. This effect is one of the main safety concerns surrounding germline gene editing because these unintended mutations could be harmful. The rates of such mutations were much higher than those observed in gene-editing studies of mouse embryos or human adult cells.“
New technology at Wash U maps human genome in days; large-scale studies now possible Just two 3×1 inch glass chips hold the information contained in 16 human genomes, an unbelievable amount of information. Placed within a new $1 million genetic sequencing machine, the task of deciphering them will be completed in only 3 days.
“It’s mind-boggling given that it took scientists working all over the world more than 10 years and about $1 billion to first sequence the human genome, a feat declared officially complete in 2003. This ultra-fast sequencing machine, which hit the market last year, is only sold in groups of 10 — a system capable of sequencing 18,000 human genomes a year at just $1,000 to $1,500 per genome.
The massive increase in speed and drop in the cost of sequencing allows scientists to take on studies of unprecedented scale, which is necessary to make the conclusions and discoveries about human disease…When the technology was first announced last year…[it was] likened…to the development of the telescope or the microprocessor, which made the modern personal computer possible.
That is the reason the new sequencers are sold in groups of 10, according to their maker, San Diego-based Illumina. “These systems support large-scale human whole-genome sequencing projects…The goal is to deliver both a compelling price and the sequencing capacity needed to sequence thousands to tens of thousands of samples.”
The $10 million price also ensures that only institutions equipped with the expertise to decipher and store the data are sitting at the high-stakes poker table of genomics.”
‘Designer babies’ debate should start, scientists say The last ‘public’ debate in Britain on human genetic modification took place in 2012, over the ethics of creating 3 parent babies. At that time the “respected Nuffield Council on Bioethics” largely impacted that debate by issuing a report that found the proposed change ethical. Now they’re considering a report on the issue of designer babies. Any guesses which side they’ll take in that debate? As we noted above, the slippery slope is ever-present where human desires are concerned. This is a step of tampering with human DNA to take man from being in God’s image.
Psalm 139:13-14 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
“Dr Tony Perry, a pioneer in cloning, has announced precise DNA editing at the moment of conception in mice. He said huge advances in the past two years meant “designer babies” were no longer HG Wells territory.
Other leading scientists and bioethicists argue it is time for a serious public debate on the issue. Designer babies – genetically modified for beauty, intelligence or to be free of disease – have long been a topic of science fiction.
“It is approaching 100% efficiency already, it’s a case of ‘you shoot you score’.” It is the latest development of “Crispr technology” – which is a more precise way of editing DNA than anything that has come before.
“There has been a blanket ban on germ-line therapy, so there needs to be a debate about that and some rational thought rather than knee-jerk reactions that, ‘No you can’t possibly do that.'” Such a debate would also have to move beyond therapies into the field of babies designed to have desirable traits. Some alternations would only require small changes to DNA, such as some changes to eye colour or to make a child HIV-resistant.”
Is There a Slippery Slope from Prosthetics to Cyborgs? At the turn of the last century, plastic surgery was unknown, but by mid-century surgeon Max Thorek asked why, if it was possible to restore faces to soldiers who had been disfigured by battlefield explosions, couldn’t the same procedures be applied to women who had been ravaged by age? It was a novel idea, using practical techniques for purely recreational or social purposes – for “human enhancement.”
But the idea of a slippery slope is not novel. It’s common in almost every endeavor that humanity embarks upon. Motives always are the best in the beginning, but as an idea becomes common and accepted, reasons always are found to expand its use. Biotechnology is following this pattern.
“[A] new type of surgery, known as targeted muscle re-innervation…rewires the nerve endings that control the limbs so amputees can better control their electronic prosthetic arms and legs. [A prosthetic system developed] at John Hopkins uses nerve sensors that are attached onto the skin, which can be interfered with by normal bodily processes like sweating. To tackle this problem, researchers in Sweden have experimented with a prosthetic device that goes under the skin, connecting directly to the nerves, muscles, and bones.
Short of a mysterious halt in the natural progression of biotechnology, it’s almost certain that prosthetic systems will one day become advanced enough for recreational use—and more. A cyborg is technically defined as a organism that is deeply integrated with an intelligent machine, although in science fiction cyborgs are usually superhuman, not physical therapy patients.
Even if most biotech researchers themselves are hostile to the idea, the development of that technology is part and parcel of medical research. Improvements in prosthetic systems are necessarily an advancement towards the creation of cyborgs, and the technology could easily escape from the hands of the majority. For instance, while Americans researchers roundly condemn the practice of modifying the genome of human embryos, the method that allowed for the economically viable editing of a cell’s genome—called CRISPR—was pioneered by that same community.”
U.S. One Step Closer to Making Bionic Supersoldiers a Reality THIS IS NOT SCIENCE FICTION!
“The U.S. military is creating an army of Wolverines. DARPA’s ElectRX (pronounced “electrics”) project is currently developing tiny microchips to implant in the bodies of active-duty service members and veterans that would essentially give them the power of self-healing.
The neuromodulation treatment would sense pain or irregularity in the body and then transmit electrical currents to stimulate the brain, spinal cord, or peripheral nervous system into corrective frequencies, calibrating the body’s often adverse reaction to infection, injury, and other inconsistencies. Like an intelligent neurological pacemaker, ElectRX would adapt to each individual, providing different stimulation patterns for each patient.”
“An experimental Pentagon program has already developed two types of a highly advanced, Terminator-like prosthetic arm.
Now, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) wants to expand on that cutting-edge work to build other potential breakthrough medical technologies, including a pacemaker-sized device that might someday improve the memory of troops who suffered a traumatic brain injury. Think of it as a hard drive of sorts for the brain.
“We know we need a next-generation device that doesn’t exist today…That’s what these new programs are all about — not only understanding the brain and these conditions, but building the hardware that enables us to address those issues. You need both.”
Under another new effort called Systems-Based Neurotechnology for Emerging Therapies (Subnets), DARPA is funding the development of implantable devices designed to more precisely identify and treat psychiatric diseases.”
“Japanese scientists say they are on their way to being able to create custom-made skin, bone and joints using a 3D printer. Several groups of researchers around the world have developed small masses of tissue for implants, but now they are looking to take the next step and make them functional. “[A] next-generation bio 3D printer”…would build up thin layers of biomaterials to form custom-made parts.
His team combines stem cells — the proto-cells that are able to develop into any body part — and proteins that trigger growth, as well as synthetic substance similar to human collagen. Using a 3D printer, they are working on “mimicking the structure of organs….”
In just a few hours, the printer crafts an implant using data from a Computer Tomography (CT) scan. These implants can fit neatly into place in the body, and can quickly become assimilated by real tissue and other organs in the patient, the plastic surgeon said.”
Revelation 14:9-11 … If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
